"Uncommon Scents": Fragrance Dos and Donts

* DO wear more perfume if you have dry skin. Scent needs oils to last.

* DO wear stronger scents in cold weather. Cold reduces a scent's strength.

* DO wait ten minutes before deciding to buy a new scent.

* DO purchase a new scent late in the day, when your sense of smell is sharper.

* DO try scents on your own skin, as everyone's skin chemistry is different.

* DO choose what complements your natural body odor.

* DO apply perfume right after you shower or bathe. Your pores will be open and soak up the scent.

* DON'T use deodorant soap where perfume is applied.

* DON'T use perfume near pearl or costume jewelry. The alcohol in perfumes can cause pearls to yellow and can strip the coating off jewelry.

* DON'T sample more than two or three new scents at a time. Your olfactory senses will become confused.

* DON'T stick to one fragrance all year long. Temperatures affect the intensity of fragrance.

How To Wax Your Legs

* Choose your product. There are waxes or sugar solutions available.

* Read instructions thoroughly... twice.

* If product needs to be heated, do so for suggested time.

* Test the temperature so that you don't burn yourself.

* Check legs to be sure that they are dry. This is very important.

* For first time waxers, apply a thin layer of wax/sugar solution in a small area of the leg following hair growth direction.

* Press muslin strip onto leg.

* At the bottom of the strip (closest to your foot), turn a small area back against the strip. It should be resting flat against the strip about to be removed.

* Lift the end as instructed and pull back toward you. Do not pull up. Pulling back is the correct procedure.

* Bite down on your lip GENTLY. The pain will ease up in a second or two. ;)

* Repeat procedure if you have missed a few hairs. * Continue the leg until you are hair free!

How Long To Store Makeup

Have you ever wondered about all of those little palettes of color and if they are really too old to be useable any longer? It hurts to throw away makeup that hasn't been used up, but for safety's sake, you should give it a little thought. According to the FDA:

"Cosmetic products are generally formulated and tested for a shelf life of 1- 3 years under normal storage conditions, depending on a product's composition, packaging, preservation, and other factors. Consumers should be aware that expiration dates are simply "rules of thumb," and that a product's safety may expire long before the expiration date if the product has not been properly stored. Cosmetics that have been improperly stored, for example exposed to high temperatures or sunlight or opened and examined by consumers prior to final sale, may deteriorate substantially before the expiration date. On the other hand, products stored under ideal conditions may be acceptable long after the expiration date has been reached."

Even properly stored, contaminants will get "into" the product... especially eye makeup. Think about what you are using to dip into the product each time...

So a good a rule of thumb of how long makeup can be stored:
Lipstick: 1 year
Eye Makeup : 3 months
Blush: 6 months
Nail Polish: 2 years if stored properly

Baby Your Skin, Baby!

Models have known for years that products intended for babies are gentle, effective and save money. Consider these:

BABY WIPES are great makeup removers, especially around the delicate eye area. They are also effective hand and face refreshers.

BABY MOISTURIZERS are great for all skin types but the heavier ones are perfect for drier skin.

MOST BABY LOTIONS are double-action products that gently cleanse and moisturize at the same time. If you have a tendency to overcleanse, these products are perfect because they won't strip skin of its natural oils. Plus, they are inexpensively priced at drugstores and mass merchandise stores.

SUNSCREEN formulated for babies contains a very high SPF. Plus, several contain balms that both cool and calm heat-irritated skin.

BABY FORMULATED SHAMPOOS are extremely gentle to hair and won't strip color.
BABY OILS AND BATH TREATMENTS contain natural, nourishing ingredients for skin. Look for brands listing lavender and chamomile as ingredients.

The Why And How Of Exfoliating

After you cleanse your face, you should "exfoliate." This is very much like the process of peeling an onion or removing tiles from a roof. Exfoliating is necessary for getting the blood flowing into the face, as well as for removing grime.

Take a packet of sugar (raw sugar works the best), add a couple drops of olive oil to create a spreading condition, then gently rub it into the creases of your face.

Open a packet of instant oatmeal, mix it with water and create a paste. Rub this mixture into your face, then rinse off the residue. Suggestion: Use instant oatmeal on your face, while using the traditional "old-fashioned" oatmeal to exfoliate the entire body.

Rub sea salt (available in health food sotres) all over both your body and your face. You'll love its invigorating effects.

How To Get Fabulous Feet

It's time to take off the sneakers and socks and slip your feet into a sexy pair of sandals. Here's how to make sure that your feet look terrific.

1. Soak your feet for about ten minutes.

2. Pat feet dry.

3. Clip toenails straight across. Or, if you would rather, use an emery board (but wait until toenails are completely dry).

4. Using pumice stone, remove any rough areas.

5. Massage cuticle area with a little oil or moisturizer.

6. Gently push back cuticles.

7. Apply foot lotion and massage into each foot.

8. Remove any excess lotion.

9. If you wish to apply polish follow the procedure below.

10. Put a small amount of polish on your brush; paint one stroke down the center of your nail. Your brush should hold just enough color to accomplish this. Stroke the sides of the nail and you are done.

11. Wait until polish is set (dry to the touch) and then apply the top coat. Don't skip this step as it not only adds life to your pedicure, it will protect your nails as well.

12. Sanitize all of your equipment with alcohol and when they are dry, store them away until the next manicure or pedicure.

Soft & Beautiful Hand Tips

The care should be taken about these useful hands. The condition of the hands depends on the care you give them. For many people especially housewives and manual workers, the hands are the most overworked and ill-used part of the body. They are exposed to all kinds of wear and tear due to the effects of temperature, climate, frequent wetting, onslaughts of harsh chemicals and due to the risk of minor injury and subsequent infection. Yet the care of the hands is often completely overlooked until, say, the skin becomes rough and cracked or a nail is broken.

Manicure - Get into the habit of giving yourself a weekly manicure , which will make your hands look good along with helping them to combat annoying problems like chipping, splitting, peeling and cracking. Manicure is the care of hands, nails and arms. It prevents nail damage like fragile tips, splits.

Pedicure - Pedicure is the care of feet, legs and toe nails. Its purpose is to make the skin soft and smooth.

Here are a few ways in which you can take care of your hands better!

Hand Massage
To stimulate circulation, rub your palm over the back of the hand and then repeat with the other hand. This movement is very similar to washing your hands and it does not only stimulate circulation but it also warms the hands.

Silky and Soft Hands
Before you go to bed, lavish on the Vaseline or moisturizing cream and then pop on a pair of cotton gloves. Your hands will be incredibly soft by morning.

Too much water and chemicals
Get into the habit of wearing rubber gloves when you do any cleaning around the house. Why? Cleaning agents can be extremely harsh on both nails and hands. The nails when exposed to water swell and then shrink back as they dry. This contributes to brittle nails.

Tips for taking care of hands:

- Apply olive oil on your hands.

- Apply the juice of cucumber juice and glycerine on your hands.

- Mix olive oil and lime juice and apply on your hands.

- Make a paste of tomato juice, glycerine and lime juice in equal proportion and apply on your hands.

- Massage with almond oil a night to glow your hands.

- Apply a paste of ground almonds, milk cream and few drops of glycerine and lemon juice for bleaching.

- Soak your hands in water in which potatoes have been boiled.

- One effective method is to rib warm boiled water and mashed potatoes on hands and finger

- Make a mixture of Vaseline and carbolic acid and rub in on your hands.

- Hands can be softened by taking a mixture of orange juice and honey.

- Mix rose water and glycerine and apply on your hands with cotton.

Home care Tips for Soft and Beautiful Hands

You can give an instant refresh treatment to your hands at home by soaking your dry hands in warm olive oil. Fill a teacup with the warmed oil, dip in your fingers and let them soak for a few minutes. When you remove them rub the oil into your hands and allow as much of it as possible to be absorbed before rinsing away the excess. Also, you can smother your hands with rich cold creams.

Natural Foot Care Tips

The way your feet look gives the observer an idea of the way in which you take care of yourself. Everyone wants to have beautiful and healthy feet. To have beautiful skin you have to take care of the skin on your feet. You have to regularly take care of your feet. You will have to soak your feet to soften the tough dead skin, then you will have to scrub off the dead skin from your feet and them moisturize your feet with a nourishing cream to keep it soft and smooth. You should exercise your feet and use comfortable shoes that allow your feet to relax and breathe easily.

Given below is a soak for your feet and will make your skin smooth and beautiful.

Ingredients:

- 1 cup lemon juice
- Cinnamon for smell
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- ¼ cup of milk
- Water (amount does not matter)

Mix all the ingredients in a tub and soak your feet in it for a while. Cinnamon can be replaced with any spice, perfume or flower petals. This soak will leave your skin refreshed and fragrant. After this wash your feet with a mild soap. Follow this foot care regime for a few weeks and your skin on your feet will be silky and smooth.

The Right Way To Wash Your Face

Washing can improve your skin's condition but it can also make it worse. Water—hot versus warm, cold versus cool—is a prime bone of contention. Rinsing with a washcloth or splashing with water a certain number of times is another point of debate. "Wash with hot, rinse with cold" proponents contend this method cleanses more efficiently, opens and closes pores, and stimulates circulation. Other dermatologists declare that hot rinsing arouses the lipids (oil glands) into reestablishing the skin's pH balance. The "warm/cool" and the "keep it tepid" brigade believe that skin should never be shocked with either hot or cold and that pores neither open not close. Among these extremes are some facts: skin around the pores does contract and expand to have the effect of opening and closing pores; warm-to-hot water is comfortable for washing; and a splash of cold water is refreshing as a final rinse. Here's the basic process for properly washing your face:

1. Choose a cleanser that is suitable for your skin type.

2. If hair is long, pull back from face with a pony tail holder.

3. Moisten your face with water. Work up a lather by rubbing the soap between wet palms. Using your fingertips (not the bar of soap), massage the lather into your face and throat.

4. Rinse thoroughly with a washcloth or with splashes of water. A three-to-one ratio of rinsing time to lathering time is considered adequate; the important thing is that you remove all of the soap so any caustic it contains won't burn your face, and so your face won't be left with the film equivalent of a bathtub ring.

5. Blot dry with a soft towel; vigorous rubbing with coarse material aggravates and tugs at your skin.

6. Apply your favorite moisturizer by tapping your fingers over the skin. Do not drag skin while applying.

Remedies For Puffy Eyes

* Take a metal spoon and run it under cold water. Place the metal on the puffy area for at least 60 seconds.

* Apply hemorrhoid cream (look for brands that contain ingredients of yeast and shark's liver oil) to the puffy area. Insiders have known for years that in just the way it gets the swelling out of that other area, it works the same way for the face.

* Thin cucumber slices used as compresses over closed eyes will relieve sore, puffy eyes.

* A black tea bag soaked in cold water on each eye for ten minutes will reduce swelling caused by fluid retention. Gently press from inner to outer corners to hasten drainage.

* Avoid salty foods, which cause the under eye area (and the rest of your body) to hold fluid.

* Elevate your head when you sleep, to keep fluid from settling around your eyes.

Lining Eyes

It takes steady hands and the near precision of a neurosurgeon to put on eyeliner. We asked makeup artist Pamela McNeally for the tips that will save you 4 years of medical school:

Dust a sheer, loose powder on the upper and lower lids so the eyeliner sticks better. If you are going to curl your lashes, do it now. (Otherwise you could smudge the line.)

Choose the right formula. For a cleanstraight line, use a liquid version (try one with felt tip, like those from Lancome or L'Oreal). To create a softer, more subtle line, pencils are best.

Rest your elbow on a hard surface to minimize shaking. Start in the middle of the eyelid, and drag the liner to the inner corner of the eye, drawing as close to the lashes as possible. Go back to the center of the of the eyelid and repeat the process outward.

To make your eyes look smoky, dab eye shadow (in a similar shade) over the line and lightly fan it out. This will also help the liner stay in place.

If the liner smudges, don't reapply more. Instead, clean up the line with a dampened Q-tip.

Define Your Eyes - Eye Makeup Tips and Tricks

No matter if blue, brown, hazel or green, eyes have been referred to as “windows to the soul,” giving those who exchange glances the power to better grasp one’s personality and emotions. Eyes reveal joy and elation as much as they uncover sadness, melancholy and distress. Sometimes pensive, mischievous or mysterious, eyes can let us in on little secrets we might otherwise miss in dealings with people we know and love.

Eyes can exercise a special power of seduction by casting an enchanting gaze in another’s direction. A wink can signal a special understanding or remind another of an inside joke or amusing memory. Eyes also key into flirtation a great deal. Cartoons and old movies always show the femme fatales batting their long, dark eyelashes in an attempt to attract the men.

No matter what your motives, playing up the looks of your eyes will bring a natural definition to your facial features while accentuating perhaps the most distinguishing characteristic on your visage. The main makeup components you may want to consider when dressing up your pretty peepers Retro Eyes are mascara - Lashes Unlimited, eye shadow and possibly eyeliner, though sometimes pressed powder or a light foundation will work wonders for circles under the eyes.

Eye Shadow

Depending on the hues you wish to use, you can get a little colorful and creative with the wide selection of products for eyelids on the market. No longer do you have to sift through dozens of shades of eye shadow powder looking for the perfect blend… now you can accessorize your eyes with a beautiful array of powders - see Evangeline Lilly, creams and glittery dustings. Traditional eye shadow powders are very easy to use with small applicator brushes and foam pads. For a dimensional look, blend two colors of powder or one color of powder atop a cream shadow base.

With cream-based eye shadows, less really is more. The cream shadows generally come in small squeeze tubes that really enhance the look of your eyes with a light application across the lid, reaching up to your brows if you wish.

Not sure about colors? Go with something neutral, like Uma Thruman, the first couple of times until you get the hang of it. Apply a light dusting of bronze, tan - see Bronze Ambition or other shimmery transparent color for a gentle hint of color.

Mascara

When selecting mascara, many factors come into play, with each brand’s newest addition to the line claiming bigger and better benefits. From thickening to lengthening to blackest black, waterproof and curling, each mascara product has a special offering of its own. Considering your own lashes, choose one that best suits your needs.

If you wish to avoid that scary-looking metal eyelash curler that appears more like an ancient torture devise, opt for a product that contains a curling formula. Choose the color you want to wear - black, brown or even navy blue. With so many options available, you can add a couple types of mascara to your collection and change your look as often as you like!

Generally, applying two coats of mascara will give enough definition to lashes to really make a difference. Allow the first coat to dry before applying the second in an effort to prevent clumping. If some of the mascara accidentally brushes onto your eyelids or underneath, simply use a q-tip to remove it. This may necessitate touching up your eye shadow a bit.

Eyeliner

To really define your eyes, apply a thin line of eyeliner in black or brown, khaki, plum or navy. To properly apply the eyeliner pencil or liquid liner, gently pull the corner of your eye outward, forming a straight line along your lashes. Starting at the inside corner and working toward the outside, delicately trace a line with the pencil angled toward your lashes.

Be careful how much eyeliner you apply, as a little really does go a long way. For a dramatic look, thicker and darker is very acceptable. For a subtle definition, stick with a lighter application.

Feel free to experiment with a bunch of different products until you find the ones that suit you best. Also, check into the makeup counters at local department stores. They have a wide array of makeup you can test before you buy so that you know what you are getting for the money. For lower budgets, drug stores sometimes offer a return policy if a customer is dissatisfied with her purchase. Doing a home makeover can be fun as well as a form of much-needed stress relief. For best results, invite some girlfriends over and make a night of it!

Easy Skin Care Can Do Everyday

Radiant, healthy skin is not impossible! Follow our great skin care tips to get soft, glowing skin every day of the week.

Drink plenty of water and eat well

There is nothing more important for healthy skin than a healthy you. Keeping your body hydrated will in turn moisturize your skin and give it that radiant look we all want. Leafy green vegetables, fresh fruit and grains will all contribute to healthy skin. And remember, eating oily foods will only make your skin oily too, so try to avoid them!

Take care of your skin

A daily beauty routine is vital for maintaining healthy skin. Whilst you should be careful not to overdo it and hence dry out your skin, ensuring that your pores are clear and your skin is hydrated should be a regular occurrence. Use a light exfoliant daily, followed by an alcohol-free toner and a good moisturizer.

Dead skin cells are what cause your skin to lose lustre and radiance. Regular exfoliation removes dead and damaged cells, revitalizing skin and bringing life back to it. Toner then acts as an antiseptic, cleaning open pores and reducing the risk of infection and a continuing build up of dirt and oil.

Moisturize

Having a great moisturizer is just about the best skin care tip you will receive. Choose one that is thick and creamy, but also contains zinc oxide and is SPF 50 to protect your skin against aging and damaging UV rays and sunburn. A slightly tinted moisturizer can be a great way to encourage a healthy glow during the summer months.

Be sun savvy

Sun damage is the number one sign of aging, especially in women. Increased exposure to the sun's harmful rays can cause irreversible wrinkles, dryness and cracked skin. Be liberal in applying a protective moisturizer or sun screen every day, even if you are not planning to be outside. UV rays are extremely penetrative and will burn your skin without you even realizing!

There is no such thing as a healthy tan. Protect your skin and stop premature aging.

Remove the day to day before bed

Leaving makeup on after a long day of perspiring and dashing about can undo all of the good work you've already done! Besides unsightly panda eyes, powder and concealer will clog pores and cause blackheads and a build up of excess oil underneath the skin, leading to breakouts and that awful shiny appearance.

Use a cleansing wipe or face wash to gently remove face and eye makeup, making sure you moisturize or apply a night cream afterwards. Voila, a perfect canvas for the next morning!

Avoid unnecessary stress and pressure on your body

Skin responds to stressful situations, responding with a tendency to break out in pimples or become dry and flaky. To ensure the health of your skin (and you, of course!) try to reduce or remove the stress in your life as quickly as possible. Your skin will also thank you if you refrain from smoking or heavy drinking. Both of these activities will rapidly increase signs of aging and cause some serious long-term damage to otherwise radiant skin.

If you can't remove the stressful situation, make sure you are doing everything else in your power to keep your skin healthy. Don't stress out about it though, that gets kind of redundant!

Sing! Get active!

I say this not only because singing is a great love of mine, but because oxygenating the skin is incredibly beneficial to its glow. In the same way that you feel run down if you don't get enough fresh air or exercise, skin suffers if the flow of oxygen is decreased and begins to look flat and unhealthy. Regular exercise will help to increase the amount of oxygen that is carried around the body, renewing skin cells more often and contributing to fresh and firm looking skin.

Make sure you get enough sleep Similarly, your skin needs time to rejuvenate each day. Relaxing the muscles in your face during sleep gives your skin a chance to rebuild elasticity and readily renew cells.

Sleeping builds up oxygen levels in your body, and is the cheapest, easiest and most relaxing way to get great looking skin!

And remember, we all have days of less than perfect skin. Whether it's because we're pre-menstrual, run down or just feeling a bit lazy, our skin responds to changes in the weather, in routine and in our general wellbeing. It does not need to mean the end of the world. If you do have a bad skin day, just continue with your existing beauty routine and the scary ogre look will pass!

Choosing the Correct Hair Products for your Hair

by Stuff4Beauty
When choosing your shampoo please look closely at the label. You should see all the materials and substances it was made of. The main thing shampoos consist of are detergents the surfactants that make foam show up when mixing with water and air.

Detergents.

Detergent is shampoo's basic and semantic component. After all the shampoo is intended to wash your hair, that's all. All the stuff that is above this definition is called medicated shampoos, conditioners, antiseborrheic shampoos and so on.

Though the amount of the foam does not determine the quality of the shampoo, the detergent has great influence on it. Nowadays few detergents that differ in its chemical structure exist. They are divided into anionic, cationic, nonionic and amphoteric.

Anionic detergents are most commonly used in shampoos and shower gels . They are cheap and have good purifying qualities. Anionic surfactants can be easily removed from the hair.

Cationic surfactants (with positive ions) are used not so often and have higher concentration. Some of them may cause eye irritation.

Amphoteric surfactants that contain positive or negative ions depending from shampoos pH are used for curing damaged and dry hair.

If we'll put in a line from worst to best we'll get the following: Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, TEA Layril Sulfate, OAA Laureth Sulfate. So as you see last three surfactants are the best ones. On every shampoo's label such detergent is displayed first.

Conditioners

Conditioners are not shampoos but assistants. You can find them as a part of shampoos or in individual bottles. There are lots of conditioners that have different practical significance.

Moisturizers are assigned for dry hair because of their ability to draw moisture. Usually the components are proteins and vegetable extracts. Moisturizers are mostly made of lactoserum.

Reconstructors contain proteins like hydrolyzed keratin. It can easily come through hair shell due to its small molecular weight. Reconstructor conditioners are used when the hair is damaged (i.e after hairdressing)

Acidifier conditioners make your hair shiny and elastic. It gives an impression of boosted volume, but it is only an optical illusion. pH index is about 2.5-3.5.

Thermal protectors can be found in shampoos with Therm or Thermal prefix. (like Thermasilk). Its basis are special polymers that distribute warmth when are put on the hair. This is very helpful for people who use curlers and blow-dry often.

Hair conditioners can form a part of shampoo (so called 2 in 1). But the effect is less noticeable then after separate use. During simultaneous use you have lower chances for conditioner to work properly. As for using shampoos and conditioners of different producers.

Using the conditioner

Place conditioner on the hair, but not on the head.

When doing that you can massage the skin on the head with your fingers

If you have mixed hair you should work up only the tips.

After using the rinser that you should wash your head 2-3 times with warm and the last time with cold water.

Medicated shampoos

Medicated shampoos are used for curing illnesses, especially dandruff. Dandruff appears when the microscopical fungus (Malassezia Furfur) starts its activity. That?s why dandruff shampoos contain substances against seborrhea and antifungal agents.

Zinc Pirythione, Climbazole, Ketoconozole, Selenium Disulphide have antimicrobial effect against Malassezia Furfur that is supposed to cause dandruff appearance. Octopirox, Coal Tar, Selenium Disulphide suppress activity of cells that produce fat. Coal Tar, Sulphur , Salicylic Acid have keratolytic effect on the skin. In other words it is the capability to detach layers of dead cells that cause dandruff to appear.

Choosing a shampoo

First of all you must choose shampoo taking in consideration the type of your hair. Thus if you have dry hair you should buy moisturizing shampoo and so on. It is harder to choose when you got long hair of different types (oily hair at your roots and dry one at the tips). In that case cosmetologists suggest a new haircut.

It is obligatory to pay attention on the detergent. Which one is better you can see in the beginning of the article.

If you like the shampoo but it is not suitable for you try not to experiment with it.

If the hair is damaged (after the hairdressing) you shoul use shampoos with pH 4.5-5.5

Chocolate Skin Treatments

One of the latest craze in the skin care industry is dark chocolate skin treatments.

Until recently, nobody would have dreamed of using chocolate could be used as a skin softener in cosmetics. People used to call chocolate junk food. In fact, chocolate has been blamed for many beauty problems including acne.

However, things are different now. You can find chocolate boutiques in every corner in the United States. Dark chocolate is now considered a health food and it contains powerful anti-oxidant properties. Cosmetics manufacturers are now jumping on bandwagon. Increasingly, they are adding chocolate as an ingredient into their skin care products formulas. The chocolate has skin softening properties.

Chocolate skin treatments have become the latest craze. Chocolate is used due to its properties as a skin softener. It is also used to smooth wrinkles due to its anti-oxidant properties. Many new chocolate skin treatments have been introduced by beauty salons.

HOW WELL DO DARK CHOCOLATE SKIN TREATMENTS WORK?

Firstly, chocolate does seem to help soften the skin. It could be due to the cocoa butter.

Secondly, the anti-oxidant properties in cocoa could prevent free radicals from damaging the skin’s elastin, collagen and other protein.

This is however theoretical and scientific evidence to back up this premise is lacking and some doctors are skeptical about the effectiveness of chocolate skin treatments.

Researchers are aware that cocoa’s anti-oxidant potential is comparable to green tea. Dark chocolate, in particular, has a very high anti-oxidant potential. Chocolate is considered dark if it has 35% percent cocoa.

What is the quantity of cocoa in a jar of skin cream? The top 3 ingredients listed on the label are the most significant. Is cocoa one of them?

However, for cocoa to be effective as an anti-oxidant, it would need to be absorbed and penetrate the dermis which is the lower layer of skin. Many doctors think that cocoa molecules are too big and doubt that it can penetrate that far.

As can be seen, in spite of all the hype, a lot of further study should be carried out. However, while all the benefits of chocolate skin treatments are still unclear, you still can enjoy the benefits of the skin softening properties.

Skin pampering beauty drink from Coco-Cola

Women’s search for eternal beauty never ceases and they are willing to spend on any thing that will claim to add more beauty and glow on their skin. It seems that the people at Coco-Cola are cashing in on the idea of a beauty drink to pamper the needs of women.

Coco-cola has been manufacturing drinks to quench your thirst and this time it has come out with another drink to quench women’s thirst for beauty. It has partnered with L’oreal to make Lumae- a tea based drink which is supposed to have all the ingredients to make your skin glow.

We all know the benefits of drinking green tea which is rich in anti oxidants that help fight aging and weight loss. As much as I know these benefits, I am a bit lazy when it comes to actually preparing it. If someone offered me a beauty drink where I don’t have to go through the process of preparing it, I would probably jump at it and that’s exactly what Coco-cola is doing.
Lumae will be marketed as a beauty drink aimed at women over 25 rather than a soft drink. The product is still in the developmental stages and will hit the market by 2008. So, I’ll still have to depend a while on others to make this beauty drink before I can stock up my fridge with loads of cans of Lumae.

Beautiful Lips

Some of us have less perfect lips than others. But don't despair! There are plenty of tricks of the trade to help make your lips more balanced and beautiful.

Some of the most effective solutions:

* The best lip color fixative? - A thin layer of Chapstick. The formula holds lip color like crazy as it heals and protects.

* Powder lips also gives lip color or gloss something to cling to for longer, smoother wear.

* For longer wear, blot lips after applying lipstick to set color and remove excess. Add a thin
layer of loose or pressed powder, then apply color again.

* Turn down too much shine by holding a single-ply tissue to your lips and pressing a little loose powder through it - just enough will sift through the tissue to adhere to color and reduce the shine.

* Turn up the shine with a thin layer of clear lip gloss over lipstick or alone.

* For high-voltage shine and color, try a lip lacquer over lipstick or alone.

* For fuller, poutier lips, spotlight lip gloss right in the center of your mouth.

* Keep matte lip color from drying your lips - use a lip primer or lip color fixative before you apply the matte color.

* For evening special-effects, apply a sheer lip gloss in silver, gold or an iridescent shade over the lip color.

How To Get Gorgeous Skin

* Don't go to bed with makeup on. Makeup left on overnight seeps into your pores, clogs them, and congests your skin. Make sure that you wash your face twice at the end of the day. Once to get the makeup off. A second time to wash the skin itself.

* Exfoliate daily. After washing your face at night, be sure to exfoliate. Use a delicate scrub. If you don't have one on hand, a tablespoon of sugar or oatmeal will work just fine.

* Use facial masks regularly. If possible, everyday is ideal. Again, if you don't have one on hand, make your own. Mashed banana or avocado is good. Plain yogurt also works well.

* Keep a treatment and moisturizer on your face, day or night. Put your skin first. After you wash it at night, put on some kind of skin treatment, whether it's alpha hydroxy acids, vitamin A or C, or any kind of special cocktail treatment. Let that sink in, then put a moisturizer over that. In the morning, do the same.

* Don't use the cheapest or most expensive cosmetics. Mom tells me that moderately priced cosmetics are the best. They get the job done, and the ingredients are usually pretty good. You have to keep trying various brands until you find something that works well for you.

* Hydrate your face throughout the day. Whether it's a commercial product, or one you make yourself (fill a spray bottle with distilled water, add a few drops of chamomile or rose essential oil, shake it gently before each use, and spray it on) hydrate your face, even over makeup, frequently throughout the day.

* Treat your face gently. Never pull, tug, or scrub your facial skin. Be very gentle when you clean it, moisturize it or makeup on it. This will lessen the chance that you'll damage your skin and get wrinkles.

* Keep your face covered when you're in the sun. As beautiful as she is, my mom never lets anyone see her face when she's in the sun. She'll slather on a high factor sunscreen, put on sunglasses, and a wide brimmed hat.

* Eat fresh foods and drink lots of water. My mom tells me to stay away from "dead food" food that's basically not fresh. She always eat lots of veggies, fruits, nuts, and drinks tons of water.

* Let go of stress. Stress can show up on your face, no matter how well you take care of your skin. Do something your enjoy everyday, whether it's watching TV or going shopping. Your face reflects what's going on inside of your mind.

Natural Look

By Anna Lynn Sibal

Putting on makeup can be a daunting task for women who are not really adept at the art of makeup and are not familiar with the right techniques and with picking the right colors for their skin tone and eye color. Common fears include choosing the wrong colors for the skin or colors that do not match the outfit, putting on too little or too much, or botching the makeup altogether. Instead of putting on makeup, there are women who opt for just the ordinary face powder or talcum powder and a dash of lipstick (which may or may not be the right color for their lips either), and then they are done.

Makeup is supposed to enhance the features of our face rather than to cover it, and nothing is more alluring than what is known as the natural look. For those who do not know much about makeup, or know nothing at all, achieving the natural look is pretty easy. The key to doing it is matching the color of your foundation with the tones of your skin, as well as using shades that go well with the undertones of your skin.

A quick tip: when buying foundation, test the match of the product with your skin tone by applying it against your jaw line and letting it on your face for a few minutes. Go ahead and see how it looks like in daylight, rather than in artificial light to see how well it goes with your skin. The perfect foundation for you blends well with the color of your skin, so much that it is hardly noticeable.

If your skin has beige tones.
If your skin has beige tones with a touch of peach or pink, the colors you should go for are shades of peach, pink and apricot for your lips and cheeks. Cover up whatever blemishes you have on your skin with a concealer before applying the foundation, and then dust the foundation off with matching loose powder. Make sure that your foundation has SPF because skin like yours burns easily under the sun. Also, try not to put on too much makeup on your face because too much will look harsh on your skin and make you look older. Finish off with a shimmering peach or pink lip gloss.

If your skin has olive tones.
If your skin has olive tones, the best way to go is with foundation with warm colors like golden brown. Skin with olive tones is also generally oilier than most, so try to stay away from foundation with shimmer in it to reduce the shine. For a sun-kissed look, apply a touch of bronzer on the apples of your cheeks, the bridge of your nose and a little on your forehead. For your lips, outline it with a nude-colored lip pencil, and then apply clear gloss.

If your skin has yellow tones.
If your skin has yellow tones, stay away from ivory or pink for your foundation and stick to warmer hues with a yellow base. Also, avoid using powder foundations; yellow-toned skin tends to get dry and flaky, and so powder foundations will only emphasize this unnecessarily. Finish with a light cream blush, colored pink, on the apples of your cheeks, and a light pink gloss for your lips.

To get a smoother finish on your foundation, apply moisturizer on your skin first as a base. Remember to put on only the right amount of moisturizer and dab off any excess with tissue. Too little moisturizer will make it hard for the foundation to blend, and too much will make your makeup run off your skin.

Achieving the natural look is easy. You don’t have to be a makeup wiz to do it, and it is perfect for those who want the gorgeous yet understated look.
